Characteristics Of A Domain Name
A domain name is identification or a label defining an area of control or authority online space. It is actually a hostnames in which web sites can be identified with. These domains are subject to the rules and regulations set by the Domain Name System or DNS.
It is used in networking applications specifically for addressing and naming purposes. They're actually organized in different subordinate sublevels or subdomains within the DNS. The top level domains or even the TLDs constitute the first level. On this level, gTLDs are included such as the well-known domains com, org and net. The levels below are open for the end-users that desired to connect their networks based in the local area to the Internet.
If you desired to run a website or create any online resources which are accessible, you need to register your domain name. The main one responsible for registering these domains is the Domain Name Registrar who opens their plan to the public for sale.
Internet users used their domains as hostnames which are actually leaf labels within the system without subordinate domain space below. This label would designate ownership or even the one that controls the resources.
Among the important purposes of the domain name would be to provide name label that's easy to recognize in the Internet resources. Registrar is responsible in moving these resources in different locations in the internet site. They are also responsible in making sure no duplications of names exist in the system for confusions.
Domain name is also referred to as domains while the registrants are known as domain owners. Be aware though that registering the domain name to the registrar does not mean you are the legal who owns such name. It is actually the exclusive right to use only that you owned.
The organization that is managing the architecture of the Internet domain is the ICANN or even the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. They are also responsible for authorizing the registrars to complete its job of registering and reassigning domains in the system. The use of domains for business purposes are subject to trademark law. By 2010, there are about 196 million active domains listed.
Every domains have suffixes that would indicate that TLD or top level domain it belongs. I know of limited number of this type of domain which includes: .gov for government agencies, .edu for educational facilities, .org for nonprofit organization, .mil for military, .com for commercial business and .net for network organizations.
Should you wanted to register a domain name, check for duplicity at checkdomain.com. Other transactions like searching, purchasing, transferring, renewing contracts or monitoring domains are also being offered by this site. Visit them for your queries. Check out http://what-is-a-domain-name.com/.
