Holiday Festivities: How To Put Together A Fantastic Party
A party is more than just music, lots of food and drink; it's about memories, catching up with friends and family and having a great time. The drawbacks of arranging a party is the stress it can induce. To help you lower those stress levels, I have put together some suggestions which will hopefully make things run more smoothly.
The initial planning and how best to invite people
When designing your invite, make sure you include all the essential information, people won't turn up if you forget to put the address down or the date and time of your party.
If you are going to put on activities such as a sing-a-long or games, think about what your friends will enjoy otherwise the activity will fall flat. If there are likely to be guests invited that do not know each other, think about name tags; you can even design a themed name tag that guests may like to keep.
Some Decorations and Music
If your party is around the Xmas season, then decorations are going to be quite important. Make a big thing of your tree with sparkling baubles, hang some mistletoe, generally make your home look as festive as possible. Candles are an effective way to create a great atmosphere to your party. Choosing music is very important to add fun and possibly some singing and dancing to your party.
What food and drink do you wish to provide?
In general, prepare more food than is necessary for your friends. Whilst it may be a little wasteful, running out of food during a party is a total downer! Find out what your guests like to eat and check whether any of them have any allergies, make sure there is vegetarian options.
Sorting drinks can be a horrendous chore, try and buy a little of everything: wine, spirits, fruit or soft drinks, hot drinks and you could do a non-alcoholic punch.
Do's and Don'ts when having a party
As the host, try your best to be there and available for all your guests. Go round the room making sure everyone has what they need, include shy guests in conversation or ask a more outgoing friend to take them under their wing.
Don't leave dirty bowls and bottles lying around, as the party goes on, pick up rubbish and take empty plates away. By keeping on top of things you will find that there is less to do at the end of the night, or even in the morning and it makes your home more pleasant for late guests and everyone else.
Choose a smoking area for guests and make sure they are aware of it; maybe place a few comfy chairs on the patio with an outdoor heater if it is cold.
Thinking of giving presents?
If there is a gift exchange, make sure to set a realistic price allowance for the gifts in advance. Exchanging gifts can be very entertaining and if guests have to purchase just one person a gift (decided upon beforehand), but the gift is from everyone, the cost involved is not over the top.
