Road Construction is Inconvenient and is Almost Year-round in Michigan
Construction season, or “orange cone season” as many Michiganders refer to it as, occurs generally from the moment the snow melts every year until the first snowfall following the melting. You will find construction sites setup across the state, several that are done promptly, but several that seem to last a long time. They often cause great inconveniences while travelling on the freeways or even simply through the city with their lane closures and decreased speed zones. Frequently, when traveling, in order to reach your final destination promptly, it is essential to save a half-hour or more to account for traffic backups as well as slowed speeds around construction zones during the “orange cone season.”
It is easy to understand that road construction is required because of Michigan’s harsh winter months, but these zones tend to be unsightly and also unsafe. Construction sites line the roadways with their massive crane rentals, tools, portable restrooms, and huge orange signs and cones. These sites are often filthy which generally dirties your automobile, and occasionally the dust clouds block the driver’s vision. Further, it constantly seems that there is at least one single person on the road who is in so much of a rush to get out of the construction zone that he/she tailgates in a hostile manner. This is certainly unsafe because in the event that commuter traffic comes to an unexpected stop, the aggravated motorist may rear-end the law abiding individual in front of them.
Also, these construction projects tend to be rather costly. A significant percentage of tax money go into these jobs. Between materials the construction personnel need for the jobs and outsourcing machine rental as well as operators, for example cranes, which can be leased from a Michigan crane rental company, construction jobs can certainly require a large amount of money.
Overall, construction season in Michigan is troublesome and costly, however the end results give drivers safer roadways for their travels. Filled potholes, smoother roadways and secure bridges are all benefits in my book. These kinds of road repairs ensure drivers have safer trips throughout the state and that the roadways do not cause any harm to their vehicles. If drivers plan ahead and stick to the reduced speeds throughout construction zones, and most importantly, pay attention, “orange cone” season will pass much more smoothly.
