1. Direction of opening
All gates that are installed as elements of the fence should be oriented so that they swing outside from the pool area. This makes it less probable for anyone to collide with the gate when it is opened.
2. Gates
Gates leading to the pool should have self-latching and self-closing devices. They allow the gates to automatically close and lock should people forget to shut them down.
3. Doors
Any door from your main house must not open directly to the pool. The pool should be independently fenced. Pedestrian garage doors that open to swimming pools are acceptable if only if they have child-resistant door sets.
4. Self-closing and self latching devices
All self-closing and self latching devices should be in good and maintained condition. A self-closing device should be able to move the gate to its closed position even without manually shutting down the gate. Furthermore, it should also engage the latching device from any position.
5. Non-climbable zone
Your pool area should have a non-climbable area within a 900 millimetre quadrant from the top of the fence.
