How to Use Web Video To Spread The Word Out About Your Business
It took me quite some time to get a grasp of the idea of making great looking web video. I am sure that you agree with me when I say this, but I had always associated great looking video with large scale productions that cost a lot more than I can afford. I'm here to tell you that I was wrong. It is actually quite easy, you just need to know what to look for, and most importantly, how to present your video.
Choosing The Right Video Player
Many people will simply upload their content to video sharing services such as YouTube or Vimeo, however there are a few options available to people who want to play great looking video in an unbranded player. There are many unbranded open source players out there such as VideoJS and Video For Everybody, that said, many of these require some additional work to be able to use. There are also some membership options such as EZS3, plus self hosted solutions such as Easy Video Player 2.0 The key is to choose the right service that is suited to your needs. Do your research, see if the features match what you need, and remember that if you just aren't prepared to spend on a player, YouTube and Vimeo also work great.
Use A Professionally Branded Intro Clip
Chances are that at some point in your life you have seen a TV show with an extremely attractive intro clip that is animated. I know, this kind of addition to your own video looks expensive but surprisingly, it is not. There are many marketplaces such as Video Hive, that sell pre-made After Effects templates that you can use to create your own branded intro clips. In fact, I see this as an essential part of the branding of your videos, and a part that costs extremely little. If you don't know how to use After Effects, then you can hire someone to do the work for you via Elance or Odesk for next to nothing.
Tell The Audience Who You Are
Most video editing suites such as Windows Movie Maker and iMovie will allow you to embed some text in the lower third of the movie. What this allows you to do is add your own business name or web URL to the video so that people know who you are, and where to find you. This is especially important if you are trying to build brand awareness. You can also use animated lower thirds as well, which are available on most video marketplaces, similar to what I mentioned previously with the introduction clips.
So it is as simple as this. Create great video, use a great player, and make the video look professional. Just don't forget to place some kind of focus on the player that you use. A great example of this would be the website of a lawyer. Would you find that you would have more trust in that business if they were using YouTube videos embedded on their site, or an unbranded video player such as EZS3 or Easy Video Player 2.0? I know who I would trust.
